Remote Desktop Viewing

Are desktop effects (compiz) active?  For me, vino/VNC has ceased to
work with Jaunty as long as desktop effects are enabled.  If I disable
them on the machine which exports its desktop, everything works as
expected.  (On Intrepid, desktop effects made no difference.)
