All of my systems are over 5 years old... doesn't really matter much how
old it is as long as the systems are clean, working properly, and meet
the specs.

When you boot into the liveCD there is an icon on the desktop to install
the system... does that not work? Or, is that where you got the install
errors from? Do the memory test, and the check CD test as recommended by
others and let us know the results.
