audio problems in 10.10

i've got to the archives but there is no option to search by topic here: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/

all of the related stuff i've found isn't very clear and in most cases reads as nonsense. if this has been discussed so many times why can i not find this stuff using google? perhaps someone could post a link to a previous thread where this issue has been solved?
