Hi,
Thanks for answering. You are the only person to reply.
We have pretty much proven that my problem lies somewhere at the MS end
of the network. A friend has helped me with my Samba config file, and
everything checks out fine. Ubuntu sees the MSNetwork, and it knows the
workgroup is MSHOME. However, I can not see either w98 or XP machine
from Places / Network.
Both MS machines talk to each other, and the network is fine. I can see
the folders and move files back and forth.
In desperation, we "mapped" drive Z: on the XP machine to the Ubuntu
machine, and I can move files into and out of the shared "Test" folder.
However, I can NOT see the Ubuntu box on the network.
Interestingly enough, I can ping the U box from the XP box, and vice
versa. Pings to and from the W98 box fail, even though the W98 box is
on the network and can exchange files with the XP box.
We have pretty much exhausted our expertise. I don't understand what is
blocking the final "link up" that is obviously possible, based on the
mapped drive connection.
Regards, Joe
