Goh,
1. I used GParted on the livecd to delete three partitions from an older
Linux distro.
2. I clicked on the Install icon.
3. I said yes to downloading extras (2 check boxes).
4. When I got to the partitioning screen, I had 2 options -- use the
entire hard drive, or Other. I took Other. I didn't really know what
to do at this point, so I found some info on the web that said I needed
to create three partitions -- swap, root, and home. I did that. I made
no changes to box asking where to install Grub (sta1 I believe).
Clicked on Continue (or Forward), and at some point I got a message that
said no other OS found. That is normal with Windows ME, so I was not
alarmed.
5. Waited for installation to complete, rebooted when asked, no Grub at
all.

I have to go out as well (time to get a Mother's day card). See you
when you get back.
