ubuntu 12.04, together with Windows XP Pro, blocks the windows access to Verizon modem when Windows XP Pro is booted

Yes, as this may not be an Ubuntu or Windows issue. I am an advanced graphical user with both (I don't know that much about terminals). I do not think this is an Ubuntu issue. This may not be a boot issue either. I really think it's the modem communicating with the software. I suggest either contacting Verizon about this issue, or downloading drivers from their website (from Ubuntu), put them on a medium such as a blank CD/DVD/USB, and then install them in Windows.
