You didn't tell it what to chown.
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER $HOME

 From Googling it may be a config file permissions problem, so the chown 
should fix it.
(The permission problem is said to arise due to starting graphics apps 
with sudo instead of gksudo, though I fail to see why this would be the 
case?).
