I use fax quite a lot.

Install the efax program and use that... but not efax-gtk. use pdf2ps, fax make 
to turn it into so many pages... send them with
efax filename.ps.00*
I found a number of problems with efax-gtk and so used the above method.

Read man efax and then I'll send instructions to make it clearer.
