Question RE Cinnamon for 12.04 LTS (Possible OT) **Solution at hand**

It's a classic case of "don't do what I do, do what I tell you," I'm
afraid, as I've not migrated my main machine from 13.10 yet. I did my
ultraportable, though, and it worked absolutely fine. Nothing at all
broke or went wrong, and if nothing else, having proper menus back in
Nautilus is good.

With the shorter support periods for Ubuntu releases these days, I
think that 3rd parties are dropping support for older releases more
quickly than before.

I did try Cinnamon on a spare machine at work (on Fedora 20) and while
it is dramatically nicer than GNOME 3, I prefer Xfce or Unity, I'm
afraid. (I don't like the workspace switching mechanism or the limited
panel customisation and I _really_ object to not being able to have a
vertical taskbar.)

But I suspect that if you want the latest Cinnamon, you are better off
running Mint than Ubuntu. I believe the version of Mint based on
Trusty just came out a week or so ago.
