The original install was on sda. (sdb is being used for data).
By selecting un-used sdb partitions for the / and /home partition, I got
a good install.
Also grub itself now resides on sdb.

Consequently no more: grub rescue> (it does not show up with a good
install).
grub> (without the rescue) does not respond to these commands. (I
installed the grub program).

herman14 at herman14-P4M900T-M2:/$ grub rescue
The program 'grub' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
sudo apt-get install grub
herman14 at herman14-P4M900T-M2:/$ sudo apt-get install grub

I have a working system now. Any info that I can provide?

I will re-format/re-partition the sda drive.
I hope it will give no more problems in the future.

Herman in Philippines.
