I am afraid we will need a _lot_ more than that to try to diagnose
anything. Exact make, model, speed, GPU, what drivers you're using,
ideally BIOS or UEFI version, etc.

Well, what did you remove?

If you are able to boot into single-user mode and then use the tips on
that Stack Exchange link, you can probably bring up networking, run an
update, reinstall the kubuntu-desktop package, and stuff like that.
This may help.

OK. Separate /home partition, or in the root partition?

I don't know what you mean by "restore". You can probably reinstall
over the top and it _should_ keep your settings. You can use your
other copy of Ubuntu to back up all your stuff -- I would *strongly*
advise that *first*.

You can reinstall into the existing root partition. However, all your
apps and so on will be erased. Your home directory _should_ be skipped
but back it up first.
