VNC login on 22.04

if I remote into 22.04 desktop (vncvieweer) and the Lock screen is up  - I
get connection reset
if I login the actual console - then I do the vncvewer it logs in fine.

But I wont be there to login first on the console (graphical) - to then
allow remote

I do get prompted for the password in both circumstances.

Whats up ? have I missed something ?
