Interesting - thanks.

I did some searches for various string in the syslog and found what
seems to work as a solution.

I edited /etc/group and added colord as follows:

cdrom:x:24:admar,colord
plugdev:x:46:admar,colord
scanner:x:127:saned,colord

Not sure which one had the right effect, but after a reboot, my drive
automounted as normal. So did the other USB drive I was testing with.
Problem appears to be sidestepped, if not solved.

Why is colord so important to mounting flash drives???
