bootable thumb drive issue

I tried several different ways of creating the boot stick with the same 
issue - a blank screen with a single "_ " blinking.  I ended up down going 
thru the bios looking for something that I was missing.. because Ive 
installed a lot of different versions of ubuntu, kubuntu, x/l version... 
etc without issue but now for some reason - I had to change the legacy boot 
setting to "Both" and it did finally boot and then install. 

I read all my notes from when I did this many times before and I dont have 
down that I needed to do that but.. update those notes now!
