Hey there,
Note: Please disregard my earlier reply to this. I had removed what I
thought were unnecessary repetitions of sudo from the sequence of
commands and it turned out that they're very much necessary, so
that's been fixed below.

This is also causing me to rethink the sequence of commands I've
recently been using all together in one step. I'm pasting my new
3-step sequence below to check if it would be more reasonable in
light of what Jeffrey Walton said:
1. Check for and grab any available updates:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade && sudo snap refresh
2. Reboot if prompted or go to the next step.
3. Tidy up:
sudo apt update && sudo apt autoremove && sudo apt clean && sudo apt
purge

Yep. The system will automatically use the new kernel.
