30 years in my case. I am now doubting my own sanity. It does. But less
doesn't. Did I somehow confuse less and vi? Some kind of termcap thing?
Weird characters confusing the search?
On the upside I did learn about joe and geany.
I have not generally done many interactive searches in long lines. I
tend to write software that pulls out what I want. But when I went to
do something interactive last week and this, vi did not work as I
expected. Though now I am wondering whether it was me or vi, because I
just loaded up the same file as yesterday and vi behaved exactly as you
describe.
Which is good! But I'm leaving the thinking about that to a new day.
Regards, K.
