off topic! internal usb port breaking

hi.

Got an off topic question.  Laptop with a single USB. Just realized the
cord, and therefore the usb device could break/damage the internal port!!
Which would be a pain.

Anyone seen any kind of device that would attach to the "laptop", and
prevent internal/external port damage?

A quick net search has only turned up port blocking devices.. not the same
thing!!
