Look for a "magnetic connect USB-C adapter" (or "connector" or
"breakaway"). This teensy thing goes into the port in the laptop, and a
matching piece magnetically attaches to it, offering a USB-C socket you
can plug an ordinary USB-C plug into. Any force on the cable and the
second piece just detaches. You can leave the connector in, so you are
not weakening the port by inserting and removing things.

Make sure you get a right-angle one, and one rated for high-speed.
