Hi David,
I guess it's ok for you, if I reply to the list. In fact, I didn't want
to name a manufacturer in my original reply.
I use the cheapest CMR SATA drives with a firmware that is always
running by default, i.e. never goes into an idle mode with the following
enclosure:
https://www.fantec.de/en/products/storage-devices/ssd-hard-drive-cases/35-inch-hard-drive-cases/produkt/details/artikel/1479_fantec_db_alu3e/
Other housings from this manufacturer have poor firmware, which the
manufacturer did not know, but checked and confirmed when I asked.
Apparently the manufacturers buy controller firmware packages and also
shitty power supplies.
Now I should go into more detail about Gene, but as there are elections
in Germany today, I don't have time for that right now as I have to
throw myself on the floor crying. So first of all, best regards to Gene,
whom I really appreciate, but in this case I don't entirely agree with
him.
Regards,
Ralf
