Ubuntu 24.04.02 LTS install

I just installed Ubuntu 24.04LTS on an old Lenovo e560 laptop (from
2016) and it went very smoothly. When I installed Ubuntu 16.04LTS on it
way back then (and later 18.04LTS), I had quite a lot of issues to sort
out, but this version was easy as pie. Admittedly I just overwrote
everything with Ubuntu, so no complexities. It's for my sister, to
replace her aging Windows system.

Ubuntu seems a lot less configurable with each release, which gives me
mixed feelings. Is there a "widgets and tweaks" ecosystem I'm missing
for later Ubuntu versions?
