Hi Karl,

Currently recovering from Covid so I might forget a few things...

I am using Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS on a T420 ThinkPad. It came second hand from
https://tier1online.com/ with a 320GB (approximately) hard drive that I
later replaced with a SSD.

If you are on GNOME, click at the top right hand of the screen and then
click on the icon that looks like a cog. This should execute
the gnome-control-center. Its man page states:
"gnome-control-center is a graphical user interface to configure various
aspects of GNOME"

There is another programme, gnome-tweaks (package name gnome-tweaks as
well). Amongst other things, it allows you to set a programme to run
automatically after signing in.

I believe GNOME uses a dconf database to store its settings. Change them at
your own risk...

There is an application, dconf-editor, its man page is Graphical editor for
gsettings and dconf

There is a command, gsettings. Its main page states:
gsettings offers a simple commandline interface to GSettings. It lets you
get, set or monitor an individual key for changes.

HTH,

Ian
