I am not a Kernel expert but I've done a lot of C programming (for a family
of search engines for public libraries). I believe that the Linux Kernel
has so many compilation options that one distro's version (e.g. 6.8.0-87)
is different in subtle ways to other vendor's kernels of the same version.
A small difference in the kernel that interacts with other differences in
the distro may result in incompatibilities on some hardware platforms -
such as the ones you are experiencing now.
For example, on my current system's kernel (6.8.0-87), the kernel
compilation flags can be found in:
/boot/config-6.8.0-87-generic
