Yeh and that (as it appears) is what has caused the problem,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/2125220
Mesa 25.0.7+ not compatible with Intel G31 express video
"My" Nobal (Unity) does not seem to share the problem thankfully

VGA-VGA with a VGA cable

not old brand new, (well 3 weeks)

It does have both but the intergrated graphics does not (also the monitor is
shared via KVM with another PC Radion 9200)

I have used the HDMI in on monitor from my Nobal MacBookPro (which actually is a res downgrade from the retina display) with the cable that came with monitor
>If your computer does not have HDMI but it has Displayport,
No just the VGA
