In my panic, I forgot to mention that when I selected either "Ubuntu" or
"ATA HDD0" that the screen would clear, then suddenly the text mode menu
re-appeared.
Apologies for the delay in replying - I had to finish a backup elsewhere.
I've looked in the BIOS settings and I could not find an entry for Secure
Boot..I Googled for "lenovo t420 switch off secure boot" and the A.I.
response was "The Lenovo T420 does not support Secure Boot"
