I have webservers and email servers running on two different virtual
debian servers. In addition I have a RaspberryPi running a webserver
and email servers. They are not that difficult to set up. You can set
up apache without a domain name and check to see that it works really
easily.
I use sendmail for my SMTP server and for that you need a domain name to
set it up.
So to start, I would install apache2 to your server. The default
configuration files should be adequate until you get a domain name.
