A brief inquiry suggests that Gmail offers POP3 access. It's not enabled by  
default, but needs a moment to enable. Better yet: if you have POP3 you  
probably have IMAP, too. With IMAP you can always peek into the spam folder  
on Gmail, without logging in. I have no specific first-hand knowledge of  
Gmail's attitude towards Ubuntu mailing list, but my experience with Gmail  
is that it's false positive rate is very low.
