Is your Ubuntu fully updated?
I ask this, because I am running Linux Mint Mate 21.3, which uses the
Ubuntu 22.04 repositories, and, in checking in synaptic, my version of
ffmpeg, which is the latest available version shown (for the
repository), is
7:4.4.2-0ubuntu0.22.04.1
I remember having checked, and posted on the mailing list, about the
version that I have, because I was wanting v8, which apparently includes
automatic subtitling of videos, and, I was told that there is no
prospect of getting v8 for Ubuntu 22.04 .
So, I do not know why you would have a significantly older version than
I have, on a version of Ubuntu, that is two years later than the Ubuntu
that is the base version of what I am running.
