I agree wholeheartedly on the annoyance factor. Also, this is
definitely a GTK problem rather than a GNU Cash problem. I've had
exactly the same problem with the columns in the GTK email program
that I use and the only solution was to go into its config files to
rescue them.

To make matters worse, the same program suffers from what I refer to
as the "creeping divider" issue in which a divider between two
vertically-stacked panes of information slowly creeps downward each
time the program is loaded. If you don't pay attention to it, it can
creep all the way down and make the bottom pane vanish, which causes
the same problem described in this issue. This has been going on for
years.

In this particular case, no amount of attempting to hover the mouse
over the bottom of the window results in a grabber... UNLESS... the
window is maximized, and even then, I'd say I have less than a 1%
chance of actually grabbing the grabber to rescue the pane. It took
me forever to figure out that maximizing the window at least gives me
a chance and I find it very frustrating that even with knowing that,
it takes forever and a whole lot of attempts to actually succeed at
it. As a result, I totally empathize with the OP and the others in
this thread on the frustration this sort of thing causes.
