Greetings
There is a procedure on the Ubuntu forums for doing a version
migration... used it before and works well and is fairly simple (don't
have the URL handy but will dig if the day permits)
The basics are that you do a prep upgrade on one or two filesets,
then edit /etc/apt/sources.list to teh new version (the CD in your
case), and then do few apt-get instaructions and it'll run.
Depending on the speed of your system should not be more than an hour
or three (my VPS in the US did it in just over an hour pulling the
updates from the net)
Here is one I found doing a 60 sec search on google :
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EdgyUpgrades
Another one :

Taking from this url - how to add a CD repository :
To install from a physical CD
1. Run:
sudo apt-cdrom add
Insert the CD, and press enter.
2.Run:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
To install directly from the ISO image
1. Mount the ISO to /cdrom:
sudo mount -t iso9660 ubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386.iso /cdrom -o loop
Using the full path and proper name for the ISO image
2. Run:
sudo apt-cdrom -m add
3. Run:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
