Hi Raoul
I get your point that a wiki is geographically neutral and a good way to
distribute the information/tips/howto's to everyone. However there are
tons of resources out there - just google!:
http://www.ubuntutips.net/
http://www.linux.com/feature/54945
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/
etc etc
There is also irc, ubuntuforums and such. Electronically, the
information and resources are at your fingertips.
The workshop as I understand it is to get to meet others who use
ubuntu/linux and have knowledge, tips and such. There is a human face
to the technology and promotes a better community. Though the majority
of us are geeks, a good deal of us would like to be part of a group and
interact on a more human level.
However as you say the practical problem is getting to the venue and
hosting it. As I have mentioned before, I would be glad to host a venue
but computers would be a challenge - everyone bring laptops?
The launch I attended which was organised by Johnathan was pretty decent
in attendance and guru's. Recently the glug members had a meeting as
well. So indications on physical attendances are pretty good - at least
in Joburg - can't speak for the other towns.
comments?
