[ubuntu-za] Mail between two versions of Thunderbird

I had a similar experience with an empty folder (no emails) for one of
my email addresses after moving the profile folder to a new partition.
The solution has to do with the fact that I was Local Folders for that
email address.

I hope the brief notes I wrote for my own future reference will help:

Changing to a backup copy of the profile folder
===============================================

Problem - all the old folders in Local Folders have disappeared!

I copied my existing profile to another partition and updated the
symbolic link to point to this new folder. I then restarted Thunderbird.
Disaster!? - other mailboxes appeared in the folder panel but my main
Local Folders was empty. My main pop3.mweb.co.za mail is stored in
this. After panicking, restoring a two-day old backup etc, I realised
the problem.
The Local Folders points to a local directory which was still in the now
deleted old profile folder.
Go to Edit > Account Settings > Local Folders. Updated the location for
the Local directory by browsing to the corresponding folder in the new
profile and restarted Thunderbird. Phew!, all restored again.
