The solution is easy. Adapt or get left behind. Or for everyone else
that focus on GTD, customise the life out of a base installation and
continue with the task at hand.

I bet it will take less time to do that, than to quarrel over desktop
environments/window managers. You are free to choose your setup and
configure it to whatever you want, for everything else, there's the
CLI which makes all of this head budding irrelevant.
