[ubuntu-za] Ubuntu 12.04 behaviour

Hi All

The extra load on the computers is probably due to increased number of
processes running in a typical Unity Desktop session.
Type "pstree" in a terminal to check.
My gut feeling is the Unity requires a recent model computer to run
optimally.
My old Pentium 4 just gets by - only just.

Also Unity uses more graphics, however the future Wayland graphics
server will hopefully help reduce the graphics load.

I think the Unity performance on Unity needs to tweaked as the
performance Firefox needed tweaking a couple of years ago.

In short, Unity is probably best suited to newer computers.

Try one of the other lightweight desktops for older computers.

Cheers
