Hi Jan
Are you running a 64 bit system? I have frequently had issues with Skype
and video4linux, especially since the move to multiarch. Perhaps try
searching for a file called v4l1compat.so on your machine (`updatedb` then
`locate v4l1compat.so`) and run Skype with that lib preloaded, such as:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
You may need to install a package that provides the file, if you don't have
it. Can't remember what package provides it off the top of my head but it
may be possible to still install ia32-libs on Quantal. If it works you can
create a new launcher with this command (or a variation that works for you)
for convenience.
I also found sometimes that if I loaded cheese or other webcam app, then
Skype would be subsequently unable to use the webcam until I rmmodded lots
of USB and webcam related modules, or rebooted.
Regards
Tom
