Hi Jesse,
What card are you running? Most amd/nvidia cards will work just fine
with one of the repository nvidia drivers. The video card I'm using is
a nvidia GeForce GT 720. Runs fine with nvidia-331 (in fact, running
three monitors fine.) Lots easier to apt-get a driver than try a
non-free alternative. Non-free, commercial drivers are difficult to
install because you'll have to lower the runlevel in order to load the
commercial driver. Then there's the issue of conflicts with residual
legacy drivers on the system. Going the commercial driver route is a
real PITA.
