Hi LeslieL:
The little Program was called Envy it comes in two forms Envy and
EnvyNG.
You could use this link http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/nvidia to do
the install without them.

Often in the newer Ubuntu it will detect that you have an Nvidia Card,
and then just download the right driver for it as there are now several,
instead of just one. There's one for the older Nvidia then the newer and
the very new.

Alfred!

I had that problem too. Do you have an NVIDIA card? I solved it by
downloading a handy little program that sets up the NVIDIA drivers
properly. Unfortunately I'm using a ship's library computer in the
middle of the Atlantic just now and can't remember the name of it. I
recorded my success on the Ubuntu forum, though. My username there is
LeslieL - you can search my (very few) recent messages there for more.

I think the problem may be fixed in 8.10.

Leslie
