Best tools for making DVD Video?

No, haven't tried from source.  If possible I try to avoid installing
software not from repositories.  Makes the system difficult to
maintain.  I suppose I could give it a try though.

Are you saying that avidemux is now in official ubuntu repositories? 
Previously it only was in marillat.
