That's one of the things I hate about Debian-derived systems. What's the
reason for this? It's sometimes handy to just add '3' at the end of
grub/lilo command line to ensure I won't get stuck with recently broken
X setup. Much easier than booting to runlevel 1, fiddling with
/etc/rc2.d, etc.
