Okay, thanks.
I've tried again to install 24.04 from one USB stick to another, on my old
laptop. I've written down in detail what happened. The installation failed
again, but differently.
After passing through the installation procedure, there popped up a message
"System program problem detected. Do you want to report the problem now?".
I've chosen "Report problem". Shortly after that, came "Send problem report
to the developers?". I've chosen "Send".
After that came, "Problem already known. This problem was already reported
in the bug report displayed in the web browser. Please check if you can add
any further information that might be useful for the developers.".
After a few seconds, Firefox started with this page:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/2076464https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/2076464
There's written, among other things:
This failure is usually caused by bad ISO download, corrupted install
media, or device failure.
We suggest you verify your ISO download, your installation medium or
use another USB stick.

I'm tired of this for now. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow, and verify my
download and the two USB sticks... I may also need to get a new stick.

Volker
