Interesting! I can't help with this. When I used 2 displays I only
experienced an issue with the boot manager appearing just on one of the
screens and it was the screen that most of the time shouldn't be used at
all. IIRC it was syslinux that time, but maybe it was grub2. However,
with the bootup messages everything was already ok, hence lightdm and
the user session where ok, too.
