Spider, I have 81 feeds. I don't have this problem.
When you press "Update All", do you see the feeds being parsed one-by-one in the status bar?
Also, what is your hardware configuration? (cpu, ram)
Finally, can you check if the lock-up happens due to high disk activity? In that case, this might be a duplicate of bug #335471
